Hyderabad Commissioner Preps for Upcoming Elections

In anticipation of the upcoming elections on February 8, a pivotal meeting was held by Commissioner Hyderabad Syed Khalid Hyder Shah, stressing the importance of uninterrupted electricity at polling stations. This directive underscores a commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process, as the nation gears up for a significant exercise in democracy.

The commissioner, leading the preparatory talks, outlined the necessity for solar systems, batteries, and generators to be set up in areas lacking traditional power infrastructure provided by HESCO. This precautionary step aims to mitigate any power-related disruptions that could potentially taint the electoral proceedings.

Furthermore, Commissioner Shah elaborated on the security protocols to be enforced. He placed the onus of safeguarding the CCTV systems and other equipment at the polling stations on the watchmen and headmasters before the polls. Once the election concludes, the presiding officers are tasked with securing the sensitive content of the CCTV DVR and ensuring its safe delivery, along with other critical materials, to the District Returning Officer (DRO).

In light of the current national security landscape, a health emergency has been declared in the Hyderabad division. The Commissioner stressed the readiness of medical personnel to respond to any untoward situation, highlighting the gravity with which the local administration is approaching election day preparations.

The heads of related institutions have also been instructed to address the basic amenities at polling stations, further emphasizing the need for cleanliness and accessible drinking water for all in attendance. Such measures are part of a broader strategy to maintain a conducive environment for voters.

DIG Hyderabad Tariq Dharijo contributed to the conversation, affirming that the security plan for the deployment at sensitive polling stations has been finalized. He instructed the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to tighten security measures on the day of the election and ensure vigilance until all election materials have been securely transported post-election.

Amidst these discussions, Deputy Commissioners and DROs from various districts reported on the status of their respective polling stations. Some districts, grappling with insufficient HESCO infrastructure, have taken the initiative to arrange alternative power sources and have already positioned election staff accordingly.

NRDC Chief Colonel Abid added to the robust preparedness narrative, revealing that installation of CCTV cameras is nearly complete, with a target to have all polling stations equipped by February 5. Reinforcing this commitment, representatives from health and emergency services indicated the formation of a control room and the availability of ambulances from public and private entities on standby throughout the districts during the election.

The meeting concluded with the participation of various stakeholders, including officials from education, water and sanitation, local government, the police, health services, and even military representatives. The comprehensive approach to election preparedness, integrating advanced planning and inter-agency cooperation, reflects a concerted effort to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure the democratic right of every citizen is exercised with confidence and security.

As the nation awaits the election results, the meticulous planning and resource allocation bear testimony to the dedication of Hyderabad’s officials in safeguarding the pillars of democracy. It is a reminder that the success of an election hinges not just on the casting of votes, but on the collective effort to create an environment where every vote can be cast freely, fairly, and without hindrance.
