Has there been an increase in motor vehicle thefts in Islamabad? Recent reports indicate a significant rise in motor vehicle thefts in Islamabad, with over 50 vehicles stolen or snatched in the last week, alongside an increase in street crimes involving the snatching of mobile phones and cash.

The streets of Islamabad are echoing with concern as the federal capital grapples with a sharp uptick in motor vehicle thefts. Over the past week, carjackers have boldly stolen and snatched more than 50 vehicles, casting a shadow of unease over the city.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Over 50 vehicles, including 46 motorbikes and four cars, stolen in Islamabad last week.
    • Rise in street crimes with 34 cases of mobile and cash snatching reported.
    • Criminal activity concentrated around Aabpara, Khosar, and other police station limits.

The surge in automotive crimes has been accompanied by distressing instances of street-level robberies, with over 34 reported cases of mobile phones and cash snatched at gunpoint. The city’s police stations have recorded 13 additional robbery cases, signaling a worrying trend of increasing criminal activities.

Auto thieves have proven to be particularly active, with a noticeable pattern of crime concentrated within the jurisdictions of Aabpara, Khosar, Industrial Area, Margalla, and Khanna police stations. These areas have become hotspots for vehicle theft, causing distress among commuters and residents alike.

To illustrate, the Aabpara police station alone reported six instances of carjacking and mobile snatching. Similarly, the Khosar police station experienced a wave of armed thefts with the loss of six mobile phones and two vehicles. Not to be outdone in this alarming escalation, the Industrial Area police station tallied three robbery cases, three car thefts, and one mobile snatching.

The pattern persists across the city with Noon, Margalla, and Khanna police stations all logging numerous thefts and snatchings. This spree extends to the Lohi Bher area, where robbers snatched mobile phones and a vehicle, while Golra station reported motorbike thefts and even a kidnapping case.

Ramna police station was victim to three mobile phone snatchings and two car thefts, underscoring the pervasive reach of these criminal gangs across Islamabad. The frequency and boldness of these acts have prompted public outcry and demand for increased police vigilance.

As the community reels from the impact of these criminal enterprises, it is clear that a robust response is required. Law enforcement must step up their efforts to quell this wave of thefts and restore a sense of safety and security to the streets of Islamabad. The city’s peace and order depend on the success of these initiatives to combat the surge in vehicle thefts and associated crimes.
